An Immigrant’s Journey to Financial Independence: One Life Live it Podcast Interview

An Immigrant’s Journey to Financial Independence: One Life Live it Podcast Interview

I met Chris and Debbie back at CampFI Rocky Mountain in July of 2019. My attendance was filled with valuable lessons, but you can’t beat hanging out with like-minded individuals eager to share experiences and to learn from one another. That first night at CampFI we all gathered in a big room and kicked things off by telling a little bit about ourselves and our why of FI.

If my memory serves right, Chris was still working but his family had already reached FI through a combination of stock and real estate investing. Their why of FI was centered around regaining back their time to live a more intentional life.

I was really curious about their journey so we had conversations about our individual paths and Chris was kind enough to share details about real estate investing. We exchanged contact information and later connected via social media.

A year or so later they started the blog gobucketyourself and the one life live it podcast and I became a fan.

To my surprise, Debbie reached out and asked if I’d be willing to join them in a conversation on the one life live it podcast. I was both shocked and humbled by the opportunity.

My response: absolutely!

I had a great time talking to both of them about our journey. The conversation inadvertently brought back memories from my childhood and led to some self-reflection.

  • Growing up in Maracaibo, Venezuela, in a society centered around family values and education.
  • Then a decision that brought me to the US to pursue a different path.
  • Balancing work, marriage, and family.
  • Saving for the future and the discovery of the FI Community.

To say I was not nervous would be an understatement. This was my first interview in a podcast and I felt intimidated. Debbie and Chris were amazing hosts and thankfully, I didn’t run out of English words 🙂

They released two episodes to highlight one of my posts about performance review for marriage and the other one about our journey to Financial Independence. Here are the links to both of them:

One life live it – Episode 022: Performance Reviews for Your Marriage, Epic Fail, or Smash Hit?

One life live it – Episode 023: An Immigrant’s Journey to F.I.

I can’t say enough about Debbie and Chris. I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity to come on their podcast to share our story.

It wasn’t meant to be a discussion about actionable steps in any particular subject of personal finance but more so about realizing that we all have one life to live so why wait. It is my hope that you find value in these conversations.

I love what Chris and Debbie are doing at gobucketyourself. Check their site and subscribe to the one life live it podcast.

I look forward to your comments. Until next time.
